A Fantastic Gulfshore Weekend

This past weekend, we spent several unforgettable days along the Gulfshore on one of Dad’s events, the Heroes of History tour. On Friday June 6, the 70th anniversary of D-Day—the Allied invasion of Normandy (and also incidentally my 35th birthday)—we met with WWII veterans who were there on that very day. We shook their hands and listened to their amazing stories. We dressed in 40s garb (dressing in period attire always seems to augment the experience at any event!) and had a wonderful time at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. From there we ventured to Beauvoir in Biloxi, Mississippi, the last home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Next, we stopped at Mobile Bay to visit the 90-million-pound U.S.S. Alabama, and even spent the night aboard the ship! Lastly, we spent the afternoon at the beach at Dauphin Island—the children’s first time to see the ocean! Below are just a few of the highlights from this singular weekend:
